Portrait of Anna van Duin

Anna van Duin is Associate Professor of Private Law at the University of Amsterdam, where she also directs the Master Privaatrecht. She specialises in tort law and civil procedure, with a focus on access to justice and effective remedies in the digital society.

Her interdisciplinary, empirical work bridges legal scholarship, judicial practice and societal questions, especially around digital justice, content moderation, collective redress and AI in adjudication. Before academia, she practised as a litigator at Pels Rijcken & Droogleever Fortuijn in The Hague (2009–2015), focusing on civil procedure and government liability.

“I love to read, to explore new grounds and to investigate how the law can play a role in solving topical issues. I enjoyed legal practice, especially in the courtroom, but I am a researcher at heart.”
